IGALIKU
The modern farming community of Igaliku has its roots in a 1,000 year old South Greenland tradition begun by the Norse who settled in this area upon their arrival from Iceland.
Today Igaliku is a tiny village of no more than 25-odd year round inhabitants, but its cultural and historical significance reaches far beyond its current size and speaks of a place which was once called Gar∂ar, the bishop’s home in Greenland.
Green pastures and snow capped peaks line this community along the edge of the Igaliku fjord, and in a series of images and texts below we have told a story of everyday life and visitor experiences in Igaliku.
