QASSIARSUK
Situated on a south facing slope near the bottom of the ice filled Eriksfjord, Qassiarsuk is the birthplace of sheep farming in Greenland. Surrounded by green fields and majestic mountains, this is the place from where Leif the Lucky once set out on his journey to discover Vinland.
The serenity of Qassiarsuk is only on occasion broken by baaing sheep, a tractor in the distance, or a sharp crack from the icebergs in the fjord. When visiting this small village you will feel the atmosphere of a farming community with its own quiet pace and a tangible 1000-year history.
In a series of images and words below we have told a story of everyday life and visitors experiences in a farming community at the edge of the Inland Ice.
