UPERNAVIK
Upernavik means ‘place of springtime’, inheriting its name because it is the same plentiful hunting ground and important trade area today as it was for Inuit in the past.
Today this importance is no different and while only 1,200 people live in town the activity and buzz around the harbour on any given weekday tells you that this community is alive with people who live off the sea.
In a series of images and texts below we have told a story of everyday life and visitor experiences in Upernavik.
